I used to love coming to this place, but every time I go now, it is like it is on a downhill direction spinning out of control.
Pro tip, it's the only theater you can order tickets directly from the Movie Pass app without using the card. I'd like to see some vegan options and maybe a few more film choices, but regardless I was glad to have this unique theater nearby. The drinks include a variety of cocktails, a little pricey but you're paying for the experience as well. The sound system is decent, which is good as the theater plays mostly Hollywood fare, and the occasion screening of work by local film makers.
It's a chain, so it lacks some of the character of Nighthawk, but the trade off is a newly renovated theater (which had been a United Artists among other things in the past) with a consistent menu, although not a huge variety of choices. Unbeknownst to me, a quick ride on the El to 69th Street leads to the Studio Movie Grill. With all the trendy new concepts in Philly (ping pong, video game bars, thankfully no ax throwing yet), I wondered why this hadn't come here yet. Not so long ago I visited a friend in Brooklyn who told me about the Nighthawk Cinema, which was a movie theater with a bar (not so unusual) which had wait service (unusual!).
